Summit residents celebrated the Christmas season with its first annual Christmas breakfast on Dec. 21 with Santa and entertainment at the VFW. State Senator Martin Sandoval (D-Cicero) presided while William Munday (Public Works Director for Summit) was program chairman.
“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind,” stated Senator Sandoval. “To cherish peace and good will is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”
More than 200 attended the event. A Christmas tree and festive table decorations brightened the VFW Hall. The food committee prepared a buffet full of eggs, sausage, hash browns and biscuits with gravy. A Dj set the spirit of the morning with some classic Christmas music while children took pictures with Santa.
Senator Sandoval represents the 11th Senate District, which includes the neighborhoods of Brighton Park, Clearing, Gage Park, Garfield Ridge, Little Village, West Lawn, and West Cook municipalities of Bedford Park, Burbank, Cicero, Forest View, Lyons, McCook, Stickney, Summit and Riverside.
