Sandoval-Berwyn National Night OutBerwyn, Illinois – State Senator Martin A. Sandoval (D-Berwyn) attended the City of Berwyn’s ‘National Night Out,’ an event hosted Mayor Robert Lovero.

The event, held the first Tuesday of August annually, is desired to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Hundreds of Berwyn residents attended the free event, which was held in the Morton West parking lot from 5-9pm.  Free food, music, and other family oriented activities, which encouraged the fight against crime, were provided at the event.

“I support the zero tolerance policy on gangs, guns and graffiti,” said Senator Sandoval.

Sandoval-SMART CHICAGOChicago, Illinois - Senator Martin A. Sandoval, member of the Illinois Senate Committee on Energy, visited a construction site in the southwest side of Chicago where fiber optic cables were installed, furthering Mayor Emanuel’s Broadband Challenge initiative.

The Broadband Challenge seeks to create a gigabit-speed fiber network in targeted commercial and industrial corridors, establish free wireless service in parks and public spaces, and increase accessibility and affordability of Internet service in under-served areas across the city.

“Expanding our fiber optic cable infrastructure is critical to achieving this goal,” said Mayor Emanuel.

“I applaud Mayor Emanuel’s commitment to make Chicago the most connected city in the world,” said Senator Sandoval.  “The broadband initiative will create jobs, improve neighborhood safety, enhance education and improve health care services.”
